Our Lady of Iveria In ancient times the middle of crosses was sometimes decorated with the most revered icons of Christ and Our Lady, words of prayers, and images of saints. The pectoral cross with images of Christ the All Mighty (Pantocrator) and Our Lady of Iveria is based on this tradition. On the front side the Lord is depicted amidst the four Gospel-writers. His right hand is in the blessing gesture; in His left He is holding an open book of the New Testament, that is, the law He left for humankind and fulfilled with His life. This is the law of love for God and the neighbor. Each of the four Gospel-writers in his own way presented the teaching and the account of Christ's life for preaching the Word to all nations. According to a prophecy, when the Gospel is preached among all nations t will be the Second Coming of Christ who will judge people by His Law. The form of the cross is a symbol of the four-part world. That's why images of the Gospel-writers on its bars symbolize peace enlightened by the Word of God. According to a Georgian legend, during the persecution triggered off by iconoclasts a Greek man who took the monastic vows at the Monastery of Iveria told the brethren about a miraculous icon bleeding from the wound inflicted by the spear of tic warrior.
