Christmas Holiday Stories McLoughlin 1880's Engravings This old children's book is titled Christmas Holiday Stories, fomr the Christmas Stocking Series and was published by McLoughlin Brothers of New York, a Victorian publisher of colorful children's books and games. It measures 8 1/2 by 10 1/2 inches. T are 40 unnumbered pages. As often with this publisher, t is no date of publication or author's or artist's names.It's a varied collection of poems and stories. Only one actually deals with Christmas. The only color illustration is the cover with Santa reading his letters. T are a number of nice black and white illustrations with typically sentimental Victorian subjects. My favorite is the shihouettes of children playing circus on stools and chairs.The cover is almost apart from the book, and the spine covering has quite a few holes. The corners and edges also have wear. The pages have yellowed, and t is a former owner's stamp in front.
