This is for a fabulous old trench art aluminium cigarette case from the end of the second world war. It was obviously made by a British serviceman serving in Egypt and was more than likely made to be sent home to a waiting sweetheart. The case is made from aeroplane aluminium with inset panels of some kind of bakelite or celluloid material. The front of it shows an Islamic mosque and the back shows a sailor returning to his sweetheart. Inside it is decorated on both sides too, one side has two love birds and the other side has an Egyptian scene with pyramids and palm trees. It is a lovely item and it is in absolute excellent condition with no damage at all, there is even a little catch to keep it closed that is made in exactly the same way as a retailed cigarette case of the time. It measures 140mm (5.5") x 80mm (3").
