Composed on a used ledger sheet Scott confiscated from the plundered town of Napoleon, and accompanied by cover. Written in ink and datelined "Napoleon Ark Jan 17th 1863 on board the Ohio Bell," just one week after the regiment participated in the assault and capture of Fort Hindman at Arkansas Post Excerpt: "âe¦We are now laying at Napoleon I suppose to reorganize for another attack on Vicksburgâe¦I should like you would write the feelings of the people about the warâe¦T is quite a feeling of discouragement growing in the armyâe¦the letters don't amount to anything more than to inform us the folks is well.
