Pitts of the Purnell Legion Maryland Infantry, Company G. Written in ink and datelined "Col. Purnells Legion Eastville Va. / Wednesday March 12th 1862," letter reads in part: "âe¦we have not left Eastville yet and no probability of leaving for a week or two yet, the orders have been counter manded for the present though we expect to leave soon for Baltimore. I have not heard a word from home for more than a week, and feel very anxious to hear, have been looking anxiously for a letter some time past. And the boots, they have not reached me yet. Just as soon as you get this letter I want you and all the rest of you answer my letters. You all owe me lettersâe¦If the boots have not been sent, let them come right away. Write and send them before the next mail and I will get them before we leave. I am very anxious to hear from home. Tell all of them to write you all owe me letters and I want to be paid immediately.
