This beautiful Navajo doll is a classic example of the Navajo women dolls from the 30's. She was made by a Navajo woman in the likeness of herself and the other Navajo women around her. This very clever old woman is made from old sacking. She wears the traditional outfit of the older Navajo women with a soft velvet shirt and long skirt. A lovely old tin cut-out belt encircles her waist. Under her flowered skirt is another skirt from the same fabric. Facial features are painted on her fabric face which is framed with real hair tied into the traditional bun of the Navajo people. This great doll is 8 1/4" T. With the doll is a small Navajo sampler, woven in the old way using wool yarn of earth tones. The rug is 4 1/2" X 7". This little rug was woven by a Navajo child as a sampler - a beginning piece as she was learning to weave from a relative. The doll and rug are a great little set with much cultural value.
