Here is a plain but attractive terracotta jar discovered in the Holy Land and dated 100 BC - 100 AD, the time of Jesus. This jar measures 9 cm in height with a circumference of 26 cm and is a red-brown color with a heavy earth encrustation. The jar has a short, round body with a slight restriction at the neck and a rolled lip. The item is in excellent condition and a white marble base is provided for display purposes. Terracotta means "baked clay" and this type of pottery was used extensively throughout the ancient world. Items in daily use included jugs, plates, bowls, oil lamps and bottles. This type of jar possibly held honey, water, wine, milk or oil. A Certificate of Authenticity is included and shipping to a U.S. address is always free. Please add $15.00 for other destinations. Should this jar or any item sold by PASSAGE TO ANTIQUITY ever be shown to be other than as described we will gladly refund the full purchase price.
