Up for auc tion is this small ( 5 3/4") scalloped plate by Clews of Staffordshire It is historic black transferware dat in g from the early 1800's. . The scene d ep icted is of Fort Montgomery on the Hudson River. This scene was one of a series do ne fe aturing the Hu dson River. The plate is in good shape for its age. There is some wear on the top surface but overall the transfer is good. There is a small 1/2" chip on the underside--see photo--which makes it appear larger than it is.. This does not show on the top surface. There is also a smaller chip on the underside which occurred during production and was glazed over. Neither of these small flaws interferes with the overall appearance of the plate and it would be a worthwhile piece to add to your collection. . I have another historic transferware plate for sale at the same time.
