Composer Ernst Krenek: TLS, 1980, Great Music Content! Austrian-born composer, conductor, teacher and writer Ernst Krenek (1900-1991). Signed typed letter, on 8-1/2 by 11 paper, dating from January 22, 1980. Authenticity is guaranteed without time limit. Written to Orion Master Recordings founder and president Giveon Cornfield, this is a one-page letter with outstanding musical content. Krenek gives detailed instructions as to how he would like the recording of his works produced, and he even included a small music quote in the middle of the text. Dr. Cornfield annotated the letter, including his own music quote in the margin, to remind himself to comply with the composer's requests. This is a superb historical document of a top 20th century composer. A student of Franz Schreker, Krenek achieved international fame in 1927 with his jazz-flavored opera, "Jonny Spielt Auf." Gustav Mahler's daughter, Anna (whom Krenek was later to marry), and her mother, Alma, asked Krenek to complete Mahler's tenth symphony. Krenek helped edit the first and third movements but went no further. Krenek composed seven symphonies, eight string quartets, more than a dozen concertos, and works in most other areas as well.
