VERY FINE CONTINENTAL PORTRAIT MINIATURE OF AN OFFICER C1810 This is a most interesting and unusual portrait miniature of superb quality. The image is of an officer of the Napoleonic Wars era, the sitter has black hair and wears a red coat with blue trim embroidered in white. The gilt metal Baroque style frame is extremely fine with putti supporting scrolls at the head. The portrait is a watercolour painted on ivory, there is a small mark to the surface of the paint in the background at around 10 o'clock and another on the arm of the coat at around 9 o'clock but the portrait is in otherwise excellent condition. The portrait measures around 6.5 cm x 5.3 cm and the frame around 11.5 cm x 8 cm. A very attractive and highly collectable piece.
