Stately three-piece 1870's ensemble consistng of a bustle skirt, basque and redingote. The bustle skirt has a beautifully draped, attached overskirt, a ribbon bow with long streamers at one hip (t may have been one on the other hip that is now missing), two overlapping flounces above the hemline - one with wide box pleats alternating with inverted pleats above one with closely spaced knife pleats - and a band of wool tape binding the bottom hem. The basque has ribbon bows at the cuffs that match the ribbon on the skirt, a Chinese collar and star-and-crescent buttons, the redingote a rear vent, metal buttons with flocked velvet flowers and beautiful, floral cut-velvet at the cuffs and collar. All three pieces are beautifully tailored, expertly constrcuted and in excellent condition, clean and very crisp with no holes, splits or pinholes that I could find. The only flaws are a tiny bit of underarm discoloration on the basque that really needs to be searched for to be seen, an opening on one side of the bustle w the stitches have broken and need to be re-stitched and one missing button on the reddingote. The redingote measures 25 inches long, 32 inches at the bust, 24 inches at the waist and 11 1/2 inches between the shoulders, the basque 25 inches long, 30 inches at the bust and 23 inches at the waist. The skirt measures 39 inches read more
