Right From The Original New England Estate!! M B PARKINSON'S c1897 ANTIQUE CUPID AWAKE & CUPID ASLEEP This is a lovely original pair of very popular 1897 prints of M.B. Parkinson's "Cupid Awake" & "Cupid Asleep". This is the story../ I understand t are 12 different cupids in this turn of the century series. They are in black & white sepia tones. These prints however are colored and I believe more valuable. The measure about 13"x9 1/4" framed (photographs are approx 7 3/4 by 6"). The frames are walnut ,mahogany or oak I think. They are signed with a handwritten c 1897 by MB Parkinson. The photographer M.B.Parkinson lived in New York in the late 19 th and early 20 th century. He formed the "Parkinson Art Co" in the early 20 th century, a few years after he had sold the rights for the Cupid Awake & Cupid Asleep to Taber Prang Art Company of Springfield, Mass. Louis Prang (1824-1909) was considered to be the finest chromolithographer of his time and he is credited with creating the original Christmas card. His objective was to offer the great artworks to the masses but in a quality form. He stopped making Christmas cards when they became a cheap commodity in the late 19 th century.
