Gorgeous custom knife by top bladesmith Mike Ruth. Heavy 5/16" blade measuring 8.5 inches long and just under 13/4 inches wide. Very nice HAMON line. A genuine hamon line is obtained by covering the cutting edge with special clay and the rest of the blade with another type of clay. Afterwards the blade is heat treated (tempered). The effect of this treatment is the satin undulated finish which indeed represents a thin steel crystals layer. This helps to enhance resistance and efficiency of the cutting edge. MIKE RUTH: FIGHTER, 8 1/2" flat ground fighter style blade, stainless steel double guard, ferrule and bronze spacer, contoured Desert Ironwood handle, 5160, satin finish with a beautiful temper line, hidden tang construction, Custom made leather sheath by Kenny Rowe. Mike is a ABS Journeyman Smith. As well as the 2005 Blade Show "Best New Maker"! This knife has never been sharpend or carried. It has been in my safe since I purchased it.
