BACKWOODS MINIATURES in the UK have dipped their toe into the world of large-scale model railroading with this, their first 'G-scale' kit, a SUPER-DETAILING KIT for Bachmann's DAVENPORT 0-4-0 Gas-Mechanical. Check-out the photos. Need I say more? These photos prove the saying that a few pictures are worth a thousand words. The already available On30 version of this same BACKWOODS MINIATURES kit is the most popular and enduring kit in our ever-expanding range, with thousands sold to date. It's easy to see why, when using parts from this kit simply transforms and elevates Bachmann's ubiquitous DAVENPORT Gas Mechanical into the mutts nuts. Now large-scalers can have the same opportunity to turn their otherwise 'Plain Jane' DAVENPORT into a potential contest winner. This new large-scale super-detailing kit includes a fret of precision photo-etched-to-shape brass parts, pro-moulded resin mouldings, CNC machined brass parts and brass wire. The etched fret includes: Perforated radiator guard, Left and right side skirts with separately etched doors which may be fitted open or closed, 6 x Louvred panels for hood sides, Alternative Radiator badges included for 'WHITCOMB', 'DAVENPORT' or 'HUDSWELL' , New panelled cab doors, Cab side window visors, Cab front window frames (fit open or closed), Selection of loco number plates (4-8), Handrail post brackets and alternative fluted side rods. Superbly detailed resin mouldings are provided for Tool tray, Air cleaner, Horn, Wooden stowage box, Fuel Tank, Air tank and a pair of Ballast weights for cab rear. CNC machined brass turnings are provided for handrail posts and replacement hood door handles. The handgrabs for the cab rear and roof are lost wax brass castings. Brass handrail wire and pre-cut styrene side widow cills are also provided. The photo-etched brass parts bristle with rivet detail. All rivet detail on the kit's photo-etched brass parts has been pre-formed using a pro rivet embossing tool. Photo-etched brass parts are easily snipped from their fret using small scissors. All parts are designed for simple glue assembly. At their discretion, modellers can use all or only some of the many detail parts provided in this fantastic kit to build a truly individualised model. Either way, your On30 Gas-Mechanical 0-4-0 will look a whole lot better for it. Give your finished DAVENPORT a coat of paint and add some realistically observed weathering like we did on model shown in photo 1 and Hey Presto! - you've got yourself a contest winner. Be creative.That's what narrow gauge modellers do. Just to give you an idea of how a fully super-detailed and finish painted/weathered DAVENPORT can look, Photo 1 shows our On30 demo model. The remaining photos show our new large scale kit's details added to our large scale Bachmann DAVENPORT demo model, both before painting and after applying a coat of grey primer.
