An imaginative alternative to a greetings card and a thoughtful gift too! This is a stylish original line block print actually made in 1929 from a drawing by the celebrated British artist, Rex Whistler (1905-1944). The picture is one of a series of society activities and pastimes that Whistler illustrated, in this case the subject is High Society or Being Presented at Court. Perhaps Rex Whistler's most well-known works are his murals for the restaurant at Tate Britain which he completed in 1927 when he was just 22 years old. Whistler was one of the "bright young things" of the 1920s, and among his many friends were Stephen Tennant, Edith Sitwell and Cecil Beaton. When war was declared in 1939 Whistler was keen to join the British Army. He was killed in Normandy in 1944. Presented in a bespoke, hand-cut mount that complements the print and is ready to be placed in the standard 5" x 7" frame of your choice. Medium: Line block print Signed: No Condition: Excellent Dimensions: image is 4.5cm x 9.5cm, mount is 5" x 7". Framed: No - in a bespoke, hand-cut 'dawn pink' mount.
