An overused word on eBay is the word rare ~ I avoid using it but in this case I most certainly am entitled to describe this vase as such. An experimental art pottery vase by Cornelius Hartog for Delft Porcelyne de Fles. The glaze is exceptional; decorated over an iridescent surface that required many firings to achieve these results. First, I report that the vase is in perfect and undamaged condition having no chips, no cracks, and no repairs. Second, the vase is large standing 14 1/2" or 37cm tall. Further information should you care to read ~ I recently learned after much readings that these experiments began just before WW II and were not resumed until after the war. Hartog worked for Delft between 1920 to 1965. It is safe to say that this vase probably dates to the 1950's or early 60's. In 1955 the experimental department was begun and led by Theo Dobbelman with Elm Valkema as technical advisor with Jet Sielcken, Lies Cosijn, and Dice Mann who was a ceramics teacher at the Institute of Applied Arts in Amsterdam. In 1959 there was a Museum exhibit at the Groninger Museum showing the experimental works of the Royal Delft.
