You are bidding on 1x artistic Danish note featuring theSemi Nude Three Graces: DENMARK – 5 Kroner [1960, P-42m, the 1st two letters are the series number, and the next 2 digits indicate the year of issue 60 = 1960, prefix C3] Bertil Thorvaldsen at l., three Graces [sculpture / characters from Greek Mythology] at r. City view with five-spire Church at ctr. on back. Watermark: 5 repeated. The note is very lightly circulated, no holes or tears of any kind, clean and crisp, 1x light vertical crease + mostly light handling features. FACTOID: BERTIL THORVALDSEN (1770-1844) was a Danish sculptor of international fame, spent most of his life in Italy, and admitted to Royal Academy of Arts when he was 11 yrs. old. Quickly made a name for himself in Rome, maintained a large workshop there, worked in a neo-classicist style and had patrons all over Europe, seen as a successor of master sculptor, Antonio Canova. Upon his return to Denmark in 1838 he was received as a national hero and a museum was erected in his honor to house his works next to Chistiansborg Palace. He is buried within the courtyard of this museum.
