Following on from her book on Spode-Copeland the late Vega Wikinson provided us with what many in the past have suggested and requested; a work on ceramic artists in dictionary format. This book is mainly for those interested in information on artists painting on ceramics between the 1830 to 1930 period and should not be relied on for it's entries for on artists working prior to 1830. I have compared previous comments on artists in the Encyclopaedia of Pottery & Porcelain by Elizabeth Cameron with 2 or 3 random entries that appear in both works. It shows that in all cases this dictionary has much more detail on the artists working life, types of decoration etc and it also includes many artists not mentioned by Cameron. Vega has had access to the Minton archives for some time, and a lot of important information was gleaned from this source along with information on artists from Royal Doulton, Royal Worcester, Coalport etc. etc. etc. read more
