Disney at the Worlds Fair" 8" x 10" photo. Signed by 7 Legendary Disney artists and Imagineers at a special Disneyana show held in Anaheim, California in 2004. There were only 75 of this photo issued and signed by the 7 artists and imagineers ( These are original signatures with each imagineer signing each of the 75 photos) who were the guests of honor at this show. In the center of the photo are the letters "WED" which stand for Walter Elias Disney. "WED" was the name Walt first used for his newly formed creative department. In the early 1960's Disney was approached by several organizations to create attractions for the 1964-65 New York Worlds Fair. Disney ended up creating the Magic Skyway Ride for the Ford Motor Co., The Carousel of Progress attraction for General Electric, the Animatronic Abraham Lincoln for the Illinois State Pavillion, and "Its a Small World" for UNICEF. In the photo starting at the center and going clockwise is Walt in front of two New York Worlds Fair Posters, Walt with the models for the Small World Attraction, Walt with models for the Ford Motor Co. Magic Skyway Ride, Walt with scale model of the Abraham Lincoln exhibit, and Walt with the preliminary artwork for the Carousel of Progress. This photo is signed by the Senior Vice president of Disney Imagineering Tony Baxter , as well as Legendary Disney Songwriter Richard Sherman. The remaining 5 who signed are all retired Disney Imagineering Legends: Sam McKim , Bob Gurr, Harriet Burns, Alice Davis and Blaine Gibson. These Legendary Imagineers also were major contributors to the early Disneyland rides and attractions such as Autopia, Flying Saucers, Tiki Room, Monorail, Matterhorn, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and others. It is 50 years since Disneyland opened its gates and there are only a very small number of the original Disney Imagineers still around. This is a great piece of historical Disney memorabilia and a must have for the serious collector of Disney. I had this photo signed by them at a special Disneyana event celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the New York Worlds Fair. Sam McKim joined Disney Imagineering as an Illustrator. He drew many of the sketches used in the creation of Disneylands Main Street, Frontierland, and Tom Sawyer Island. He drew the concept art for the Haunted Mansion, and did the initial sketches for Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and the Carousel of Progress. In 1958 Sam designed the first Disneyland souvenir map and continued to design the maps until 1964. In 1996 the Disney Company honored Sam naming him a "Disney Legend". Sadly on July 9, 2004 Sam passed away at the age of 79. On May 17, 2006 Disney bestowed upon Sam the ultimate and most rare honor of all by placing his name on a window on Mainstreet in Disneyland. This honor has been bestowed on only a select few. Bob Gurr joined Disney Imagineering in 1954. During his almost 30 year career at Imagineering Bob created over 100 designs for attractions that included the Disneyland Monorail, Matterhorn Bobsleds, Autopia cars, the memorable Flying Saucers, original Abraham Lincoln audio-animatronics figure, Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as the Carousel of Progress and Magic Skyway at the N.Y. Worlds Fair. Blaine Gibson joined Disney in 1939 as an Assistant Animator on Pinocchio and continued working on animated features up to and including 101 Dalamtions. In 1954 he started doing projects for Disney Imagineering on his spare time, joining them permanently in 1961. He headed the sculpting department and was responsible for most of the presidents, ghosts, and priates heads. He also worked as a sculptor on the N.Y. Worlds Fair Abe Lincoln, Carousel of Progress, and Small World attractions. His statue "Partners" graces the hub at the end of Main Street in front of the Castle at Disneyland. He retired in 1983 and in 1993 was honored by Disney as a "Disney Legend". Harriet Burns was the first female Disney Imagineer and one of the original Imagineers that worked on Disneyland before it was built.
