Dogon Bronze Tobacco Pot with Horseman & Nommo Figures-AFRICA A fine Dogon tobacco pot or tabatière made of bronze. The removable lid is surmounted by a horseman holding weapon in hand. The supporting legs of the pot have been transformed into two horses; the body of the vessel is adorned by four pairs of Nommo figures. Cast using the old technique of lost wax, whereby a wax model is hand-shaped, then surrounded by a mold of clay; molten bronze is poured into the cavity containing the wax figure, the wax liquefies and drains out leaving the metal piece.
