Offered for sale at No Reserve is a large, well-decorated Doulton vase, manufactured under Patent agreement with the firm of Rix, circa 1887. Given the short-lived partnership between Doulton and Rix, very few "Rix" pieces come to market, and fewer still are as large or as lavishly decorated as this one. A rudimentary search of the results from the better English pottery auctions will serve as testament to this fact. The vase itself is 14" tall, 17" in diameter at its widest point, 3" wide at the mouth, and 4" across at the base. Aside from a harmless, 1" firing crack at the dead center of the underbase (done in its manufacture), this piece is free of all cracks, chips, and/or restorations. It is pristine throughout, and quite substantial. The base shows the usual jumble of Doulton's internal control markings & stamps, the unique corporate hallmark of Doulton/Rix, and the artist's cypher. (Any input as to who this artist is would be greatly appreciated, and if the artist is identified, that info will be posted to this ad text upon receipt.) T are also present several cyphers (?) that are too lightly inscribed to be read easily. Both Doulton/Rix stamps were lightly brushed with harmless, washable powdered graphite in an attempt to bring better contrast. Hopefully, this will help our viewers to better see the information tin.
