Rare 50-Year Commemorative medallion paperweight from the Dow Chemical Company made in 1947. This 3" diameter by .25" thick round medallion is made of a very lightweight metal, probably an aluminum-magnesium alloy, that only weighs 4 oz. One side has an embossed design of the planet Saturn spinning in the solar system, with the diamond backed "DOW" logo near the bottom. The other side is embossed with a hand holding a leaf reading "FIFTY YEARS OF CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT - 1897-1947". When this paperweight was made in 1947, Dow was instrumental in the manufacture of lightweight aircraft and auto parts made from magnesium and aluminum - which is why I think this is the material of the advertising medallion. It's a very cool piece of industrial memorabilia for the collector or Dow employee.
