Beautiful older Makah figural basket! These gorgeous baskets are getting harder and harder to find especially the figural ones! This basket measures 2" high by 3 1/2" wide and is in wonderful condition! It is made in the characteristic Makah way by starting each piece with a cedar bark square (see picture) and weaving the basket from t using a wrap twining and diagonal twining technique. The lid is also reinforced with cedar bark which helps the lid fit correctly and provides strength to the basket. It has the theme of the Pacific Northwest as depicted by the whaling boats and ducks. This wonderful basket is from a private collector who lived in Arizona/New Mexico in the 1950's and 1960's. What a great addition this would make to your Indian or basket collection.
