This is is an excellent and accurate example of a reproduction War of 1812 period US Army Lherbette pattern infantry light pack/knapsack. This design was used as a lighter pack than that designed for the much heavier blanket roll and overcoat. The straps and construction suggested a field use for light rather than heavy marching. The exterior is made of heavy cotton duck canvas and both the top and bottom front have been painted for waterproofing. The US logo has been painted directly to the exterior. The interior construction is a lighter cotton duck with two compartments and a full size pocket in the cover for light items. The strapping is the distinctive assembly of harness leather and wooden toggles found on all Lherbette pattern packs. All buckles and snaps are period correct.
