9-3/8" plate, "Sardinia" pattern, in dark brown transfer. The pattern is one of the so-called romantic or scenic designs, depicting a man on horseback, a woman and child in an exotic park-like setting.Dimensions: about 9-3/8" diameter.Marks: a transfer printed cartouche with two birds at the top, with the inscription "Sardinia / R Hall & Co." Ralph Hall & Co operated in Staffordshire, England between 1822 and 1849. This type of mark was used on transferwares between 1841 and 1849.This plate is very worn, but has a lot of character, interesting patina, and a terrific classic transfer design. It has much more decorative appeal than collector value.T is overall crazing in the glaze and several hairline cracks. While the front side is fairly clean, the back is more stained. T is much wear to the glaze in the center of the front, and some flaking at the verge from stacking. T is one significant chip at about the "six-thirty" position on the front, on the rim.
