Offered is a nice early paint-decorated wooden book box measuring approx. 6.25 by 4.76 by 1.5 inches. The original painted surface is very nice, the covers are painted a deep red, the "pages" are painted in wonderful vibrant mustard, the spine is black. The original overcoat of shellac enhances the painted surface with a low luster. The unpainted interior has penciled notations. I am unable to read much of what is written, but I am able to make out "NATHAN" and " PARKS" . The leather hinges are original and unbroken. There are two old strips of fabric tacked inside. They are most certainly old, but I do not know if they are original. Condition of the box is very good, there being light surface wear as shown.Condition is very good.
