This painting is part of an estate liquidation for a friend of mine. This landscape painting by Edgar S. Cameron is called From A Train and is painted in Cameron's signature impressionist style. It is painted on canvas, and is framed in a gold leaf frame. The painting was purchased from the Chicago Galleries Association in 1935 for $500 (original sticker still on back of frame - see photo). The back of the frame also has a brief biography of Artist Thomas Cresswick (1811 - 1869). We are unsure what the relationship between Masseurs Cameron and Cresswick is, if any. I have a letter (which will go to the buyer) written in 1995 from the owner's estate to The Art Institute of Chicago questioning if Edgar Cameron was in fact Thomas Cresswick - and the response was "No". The Art Institute returned a list of Edgar Cameron's exhibition history at the Art Institute of Chicago and also noted Edgar Cameron was "highly regarded and financially successful in his own lifetime". Materials: Oil on canvas. Gold leaf frame. Measurements Frame (outside) : 31.5" x 36.5" Painting : 20.5" x 25.5" Condition This painting is in excellent vintage condition. There is no damage, and the colors appear to be bright with no obvious fading. There is minor wear to the edges of the frame - see pictures.
