This "E.E.M.C." sextant is a Tamaya "Jupiter", marketed by a proprietary seller for professional mariners. It is a beautiful, high precision navigational tool from a sailor's estate- It had been intended for use on some serious passagemaking and never went. Comes in it's very nicely made fitted dovetail case. Instrument remains in fine condition, looking virtually new. Optics are AWESOME , and the instrument comes with BOTH the 4 X medium power tube general use eyepiece and the high power 12X starscope . Lenses are undoubtedly hand ground, giving absolutely SUPERB optical clarity , which really makes the horizon and celestial bodies show sharply, even in low light. Instrument is extremely nice condition, with no virtually wear to the finish. Screwheads are untouched. Filters are unblemished. Half-horizon mirror. Main mirror has a touch of light speckling which doesn't affect the optical clarity. The sextant measures about 9 1/2" by 9 1/2" with the high power eyepiece and about 9 1/2" X 12" with the low power eyepiece in place. Dovetail case measures 11 1/4" X 11 5/8" X 6 1/2. Case has dedicated mounts for both eyepieces. Key for the case lock fits into it's own sheath. Mirror adjusting wrench and screwdriver are also present and fit into their own slots. The case has been nicely refinished sometime in the past and looks great. The sextant measures about 9 1/2" by 9 1/2" with the low power eyepiece and about 9 1/2" X 12" with the high power eyepiece in place. 4X uses an inverted image for contrast, while the 12X starscope gives a standard image. Lid holds the certificate of examination, showing the very small arc correction to to factored into the sight reduction. Interior felt is perfect and the inner sections confine the instrument and eyepieces closely . Marked 'E.E.M.C.' on the brass arc. Sextant is virtually identical to the Tamaya 'Jupiter' 833, with the exception of having an unilluminated arc. (Professional mariners realize that most sights are sunsights or sights taken at dusk or sunrise while the horizon is visible). A beautiful instrument. Considering that the Tamaya Jupiter with a starscope runs about $1,200-$1440.00 (this from the 'discount' sellers in the economy plastic case), this precise navigational tool is offered with an extremely .......................Low Reserve
