This is an original paratroop sleeve/ankle sheath for a Fairbairn-Sykes commando dagger, made by H. G. Long, in Sheffield , England , and imported by John Ek, when Ek was located in Richmond , Virginia . The sheath is in factory mint condition, never used, and is marked with the H.G. Long logo. It is made like the very rare sheaths made during World War II for the paratroop units of Princess Patricia's Light Infantry and the S.A.S. See: Flook: "British and Commonwealth Military Knives", p.187 for an illustration of the World War II vintage sheath. The last H. G. Long items were imported before Ek left Richmond , Virginia in 1992. In a letter dated Feb. 6, 2003, Mike Stewart, Past President of Blackjack/Ek discusses these sheaths. is an excerpt from the letter: "...T were a couple of handle variations, and two types of sheaths: The regular belt/boot British Commando sheath, with the sew-on-tabs, and a sleeve or ankle sheath, made like the ones used by some of the British paratroopers and SAS units. This paratroop sheath had been made by a couple of different makers, and t were some variations in manufacture, but not in the basic design. As you know, H. G. Long made a lot of knives for the British military during World War II, including some of the "Sneaky Pete" types of items used by S. O. E. [Special Operations Executive--Ed] read more
