is an Enfield or Martini bayonet with original leather scabbard. The scabbard is capped at the opening with a brass cap or guard. The end has a brass tip. T is also a brass hook for attaching to a leather frog. Scabbard measures just under 17 1/2". T are markings stamped into the blade. But, they are illegible. The blade, from tip to elbow, measures about 17 1/8". I'm not sure if this is a Civil War era Enfield bayonet or, a postwar Snyder conversion or Martini bayonet. You decide. CONDITION: Bayonet is rust-free and smooth, with a slightly darker patch on top flat. The locking ring is missing. But this is fairly easy to replace. The tip of the blade is blunted somewhat. Someone apparently painted this bayonet silver. And someone else removed much of the paint, though some remains and t on the blade and socket. I'm sure that the rest of the paint can be removed. But, I'll leave that to the next owner. The glare you see in the scan of the blade, is not silver paint but, glare from the camera flash. The scabbard body is of leather, with brass hook and ends. The brass parts are in good shape, though tarnished. The leather body is solid, stiff and smooth with intact stitching. T are areas w the blacking has worn away. All in all, I'd say the scabbard exhibits moderate wear. A good original piece. Please examine the images below and read more
