ESCAPE and EVASION POW - ARMY - RAF - NAVY COMPASS This auction is for a FLEET safety razor blade which was issued to British military personnel of all three forces. While most of the Fleet Razor Blades were “normal” the Razor Blade offered here is one of the MAGNETISED ones for use as a compass for escape and evasion when behind enemy lines or for escaping prisoner of war. The blade comes with its original wrapping and is unissued. The Razor Blade does have very-very minor light surface rust marks/spots from 70+ years of storage but for an item such as this it is in very good condition for age and surprising to have survived. The outer paper wrapper is also in very good condition. See PHOTO. As the blade is magnetised it will point to north when suspended on a piece of cotton or floated on water. The blades have a double � � "Crows Foot arrow " on them and this would point to north. This escape and evasion razor blade is mentioned in the book “ MI9-Escape & Evasion 1939-45” by J. M. Langley A web-site on compass also suggest these were for Naval personel and I did buy a few of there Fleet Razor Baldes in the past with other WWII Naval items.
