This is a blue and red dyed Indonesian Batik decorated with birds and butterfly designs. Batik is a process of wax resist dyeing technique directly on cloth with various colors. The cloth is stretched, tied, and dyed to receive a certain pattern. The cloth is dyed multiple times with different colors. To receive certain designs the cloth has a waxed layer applied directly to the surface before being repeatedly dyed. The cloth goes through a process of being boiled down, pounded, and then ironed out. Batik is a traditional process prevalent throughout Indonesia and Malaysia. Indigo, soga (brown) and tannin for yellow are some of the most popular colors for batiks.
