EXCEPTIONAL 15" JAPANESE CLOISONNE PIGEONS VASE c1880 PIGEON BLOOD RED GROUND An exceptional 14 inches tall late nineteenth century Japanese cloisonn enamel vase dating from the Meiji period c1880, the vase of remarkably fine quality, masterfully wired in strand of silver yusen (wire) in varying thickness and particularly delicately shaded in subtle naturalistic tones. The vase frontally wired with a gnarling cherry blossom tree with two birds nestling in it, the neck with a frieze of geometric diaper suspending complex and extensive trailing canopies of cherry blossom amidst further branches of the gnarling tree, the body to the reverse decorated similarly with a flowering chrysanthemum with accompanying foliage all reserved against a highly striking pigeon blood ground all standing above an outward tapering pedestal foot and beneath a trumpet neck. This vase is of incredibly good quality, as previously stated the item stands 14 inches tall, it is in excellent condition, there is one small and one tiny enamel flaws next to each other at the back (illustrated- close up photo 21) and a couple of small/ tiny enamel imperfections inside edge of the foot (illustrated- last photographs), it should be noted that these flaws are all of very little significance but are mentioned for accuracy nonetheless.
