It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Very Rare and Extremely Nice 1928 HEDDON STORE ADVERTISING POSTER/SIGN FOR THE 'NEW" HEDDON NO.4 "CHIEF DO-WA-GIAC" ANTI-BACKLASH CASTING REEL. Heddon store advertising items from the 1920's seldom come up for sale and few have survived, basically for two reasons. First, most were made from fragile paper or cardboard stock. Second, dealers tended to readily dispose of them after a certain period of time. I have only handled one other of these in the last 10 years. This lovely example from 1928, promoting the new No.4 "Chief Do-Wa-Giac" anti-backlash casting reel, would have been distributed to the many Heddon product retailers for wall, counter or window display. An identical example can be seen on page 308 of Roberts & Pavey's great book "The Heddon Legacy". Made from heavier paper stock, the poster promotes "The Reel with 'The Mechanical Thumb' " by announcing "Good-bye Back-Lash-Snarls, Burnt Thumbs and Profanity". Great graphics and classic slogans, such as "Heep Good Reel" and Heddon's famous "Heddon Made - Well Made". Sign is in solid Extra Fine condition for these, showing only minimal wear. Two pinholes in the top margin, minor edge wear and very light staining are the only issues worth describing. Still crisp & fresh, retaining vibrant color and graphics. A rare and wonderful early read more
