Price of shipping will be calculated when you send us your shipping address and zip or postal code. This unique and rare piece of Hollywood's legendary studio history can now be yours. This Green Flower Bowl/Planter dates back to the 1940's/50's and was used as a prop at Desilu Studios in Hollywood, California on a bevy of television shows and movies filmed at the studio including I Love Lucy, the Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour, The Andy Griffith Show, Dick Van Dyke, My Three Sons, Star Trek and many, many more as a background prop. It was also used in Lucy's personal dressing room for several special televised interviews, as this shade of green was one of Lucy's personal favorite colors. Measuring 9" wide by 4-1/2" high and 4-1/2" deep in tones of light green with creamy highlights in its glaze. The base has a molded raised/line pattern on the front and back and there is one tiny kiln flaw under the glaze at the foot. Typical of planter containers of the period, this was probably made in America however is unmarked. If you watch some of the early TV shows and movies filmed at Desilu, you may see this piece hiding under a plant, on a shelf, fireplace mantle, the back of the piano, side table, headboard, etc. After Lucy sold Desilu, she removed many of the props she herself felt she could use or enjoy at her home in Beverly Hills, Ca., including this piece. As you can see in our photo images below, the base is stamped Desilu in the type face most often associated with the I Love Lucy TV show and the Desilu Studio signage. Also shown below you can clearly see that the planter is cracked and has a small chip in its base, however according to our professional appraiser, these damages don't devalue it's historical value as a prop from an actual studio. It has recently been photographed and will appear in two new books in chapters about Lucille Ball including : " Haunted Houses of Hollywoodland" & " Jewels of the Movie Stars and the G lamo ur of Hollywoods P as t," both written by world famous historian/author & Psychic Medium to Lucille Ball and many other lumunious Hollywood legends: Michael J. Kouri , currently the published author of over 50 books. Volume I of Jewels is d ue for release in December of 20 13 followed by II, III and IV while Haunted Houses of Hollywoodland is due for release in October of 2013. While researching for his books, Michael had the privilege of personally meeting and interviewing Lucille Ball several times, (at her lovely home in Beverly Hills, California) Lucy took a liking to the young medium and gave him several personal items as gifts and she shared a lot of information about her life and career that has never been published before now. This planter sat in her breakfast room/patio filled with pink geraniums at their first meeting. After her death, it was sold at an estate sale along with many other personally owned items from her home, dressing room, offices, and things she cherished from Desilu Studio's to our client, who actually worked with Lucy and Desi on I Love Lucy and other shows, and was a devoted neighbor and friend. It has remained in his personal collection along with many other pieces of Movie and Television Show props, has been displayed in museums celebrating Hollywood filmdom, until he consigned his entire estate with us. It's truly sad, that his siblings aren't interested in his Hollywood collectibes-but it's true.
