This is a fun sterling souvenir spoon that celebrates the fraternal order "Knights of Pythias". The spoon measures 5-13/16" long and weighs a heavy 1.05 troy ounces. The bowl is beautifully engraved, "K of P, Biennial Encampment, Louisville, Aug. 1904". The spoon also features the shield of the society, which includes a skull and crossbones! The front of the handle features the following from top-to-bottom: the shield of the state of Kentucky with the motto, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall", a portrait of Daniel Boone, a banner which reads, "Kentucky", a horse head in a horseshoe, corn, a whiskey barrel and tobacco. The reverse shows the State Capitol, "Old Kentucky Home", the Daniel Boone Monument, and an olive branch. The spoon is marked with Watson's "Pennant-H" and "Sterling". Any black spots are merely reflections. It is a great piece! Please see my other auctions for more interesting spoons.
