What a fabulous Art Nouveau form! It stands 12 3/4" high and the bulbous base is approx. 5 1/2" in dia. The piece is a combination of a gloss black/brown textured surface and a black raku style (unglazed irredescent black surface) on the Nouveau swirling form. The underside is incised: BRETHY 1477 ENGLAND. (Tooth & Co.) The sunrise mark dates this piece between 1891 to 1900. After 1900 their pieces were marked with: Made in England. T are some very small chip imperfections on the spout area (it appears someone had colored the underside in long ago and a portion has worn off - its not magic marker) and a pencil tip size chip on the free flowing stem below the handle that can be seen in the picture. Also noted are a few tiny spots (approx. pin tip size) w the surface black glaze is missing. The shape is stunning and a delight for the eyes and the flaws are not very noticeable. A grand addition to a collection and a beautiful stand alone piece!
