Up for auction we have a very special Chinese export silver card case. This silver card case was produced in Canton around c1850 or perhaps a bit earlier by a little known gold & silver smith 'Wong Shing' whose mark is on the bottom of the case in the letter 'W'. This artist worked exclusively in Canton, China and was located on 15 Old China St. and produced some of the finest gold & silver pieces which rivaled the ultimate master 'Hoaching'. I will let the photos do the talking , but just to point out some highlights. One unusual feature is that the lid to the front side is a separate scene w most of these types of calling card cases have the top and bottom run together as one continuous scene. As you will notice the wind blown willow tree stops at the seam w rocks line the top of the seam for the above work. The reverse shows the top and bottom as one scene having a superb pair of bamboo stalks with leaves and two remarkable done bees buzzing around the bamboo. The background is done in a very fine stipple to contrast and highlight the repousee workmanship. T is a cartouche for monogramming on the top which was left blank and the bottom has the makers mark. Condition is perfect with no noticeable flaws what so ever, not even the smallest dent or ding. Height 3-3/4" x Width 2-11/16" x Thickness 1/2". If you collect Chinese export read more
