Fantastic Angel Figural Carved Victorian Sideboard~1895 Fabulous French Marriage Cabinet! Must See!! is a true "tour-de-force" of the carvers art! If you want jaw dropping eye-appeal,..this is it! You'll need at least a 9' ceiling to hold this oak behemoth. Just under nine feet tall and six and a half feet long, you'll need a substantial space to put this in. This isn't just another "carved-to-death" piece,..it has wonderful form and proportions too! It retains its original finish with an excellent rich patina. We particularly like the carved musicians along side the beveled mirrors. One has a lute, another a tamborine, another a long horn, and the other has bagpipes! Two winged angels peer over the troupe along with a fierce lion top and center. The base has a plethora of rich carvings including a statuesque man and woman, along with various mythical beasts. Pieces like this are also called marriage cupboards with the two genders carved on the doors and flanking them also, while the musicians regale them into romantic bliss! ~Made of quarter-sawn oak and in its original finish, this piece is in great original condition with no signs of repairs.
