In separate auctions I have listed four (4) sizes of this popular skillet variety, and a Favorite Dutch oven, and This auction is for an exceptionally hard-to-find FAVORITE (Piqua Ware) #7 cast iron Dutch Oven, with matching Lid and Trivet, produced sometime before 1934, in ESPECIALLY GOOD overall condition. The Favorite Stove and Range Company, established in Piqua, Ohio in 1889, had produced quality-made cast iron hollow ware as early as the 1890's, but changed their focus after 1916 away from stoves and ranges, to expand their manufacturing of cast iron hollow ware to include kettles, griddles, skillets and gem pans, but ceased operations in 1934 due to the economic reversals brought on by the Great Depression. This seldom used and quite rare 70+ year old #7 Dutch oven m easures 9.0" rim-to-rim, 11.0" side handle-to-side handle, at 3.75" deep, with a cooking surface diameter of 7.0". This very well made, Iron Finish Dutch oven base is marked on its exterior bottom with the name " FAVORITE" and " PIQUA WARE " both over the standard "SMILE STYLE UNDERSCORE" , plus the size number " 7" below, and has the original unbent steel bail firmly attached to the side bars . The Dutch oven cover measures 9.0" rim-to-rim, has an 8.75" milled inner lip that fits snuggly within the Dutch oven base with no rocking or wobble, is 1.75" deep at the crown and 2.875" deep from the top of the loop style handle, and on the interior has three (3) intermittent styled Self-Basting Drip Rings, and is incised with the number " 7" below, and molder's mark " D" following. The matching trivet measures 7.375" in diameter and is embossed with the name " FAVORITE PIQUA WARE " the numbers " 7" and " 8", and the letters " D" and " F", and sports three (3) stub-style evenly spaced legs, but restoration detected a small hairline crack in the outer rim. Thoroughly cleaned, professionally restored, and verified as authentic, this very uncommon #7 Dutch oven has no chips, cracks, pits, rust, repairs, warping or bowing in evidence, will sit flat on any hard, level surface with no rocking or wobble, and will ring nicely when tapped. Having a dark, rich, warm color typical of well maintained vintage cast iron, this seldom used iron pot has been preseasoned with vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. Very occasional use has only very lightly worn the manufacturer's milling marks CARTWHEEL EFFECT on the polished interior, and it remains completely original on the interior sides, and with virtually no utensil marks or light scratches in evidence, has produced a cooking surface that is EXCEPTIONALLY SMOOTH to the touch, and virtually non-stick!
