The Fenton Connoisseur Collection The Connoisseur Collection demonstrates Fenton's commitment to a vanishing art form. Artistic treatments devolped during the 19th century "Golden Age of Glass" have been recrreated by the proud crafts men and women at Fenton. Careful research into the styles and methods of Bohemian, English and American art glass inspired each creation. Many of the glass formilas used in this collection are produced now else in the world. Each is then decorated using techniques such as sandcarving, raised paste enameling or intricate detailing with 22k gold. The Fenton Family and over 500 Empolyees wish you many years of enjoyment from this unique work of art. Item Description This Connoisseur Collection Series are limited edition pieces. This 1995 piece is #448 of 790 and is ware #2968UN. This Burmese piece is from the 90th Anniversary Historical Collection 1995. "Cherry Blossom Pitcher" was designed by Martha Reynolds. The decoration features cherry blossoms painted in raised enamels and delicate gold scrollwork. The pitcher measures 9" in height and the mould dates back to 1948. Burmese was the name given to this lovely glass treatment in 1885 by its creator Frederick Shirley, of the Mt. Washington Glass Company in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Produced between 1885 and 1900, legend states that the name was inspired by Queen Victoria who, upon receipt of a gift of this glass, was said to have exclaimed that the rich tones of blushing pink reminded her of a Burmese sunset. Enamored with the soft translucent beauty of Burmese, Feton Glass chemist Charles W. Goe experimented with innumerable formula variations over a period of many years. With the success of these experiments, Burmese entered the Fenton line in 1970. Today, Fenton uses materials and techiques used in 1885, combined with the talents of our artists and decorators, to produce this declicate blushing glass featured in the 90th Anniversary "Historical" Collection.
