An exceptional, Museum quality, antique carved wood European chair. The rustic / primitive piece is reminiscent of early Black Forest / Brienz wood pieces. The chair has an unusual design with cutout design and carved decoration. It is dated 1674. Actually, it is quite amazing considering that the pilgrams landed on Plymouth in 1620. The year that this piece was created, Charles II was king of England and Louis XIV was King of France. We bought it in Switzerland. However, it could be German in origin. The chair is 31 inches tall with 16 inch seat height. The legs were replaced with ones modeled after the original ones. It is not unusual for such pieces that legs or feet are replaced as the wood of such a piece has had to stand over 330 years of floor washing, use and other elements. The chair's seat and back has been treated for worms and their are exit holes in evidence that it once had this problem but no longer does. T is a repair at the original seat joint. This is not really a chair that should be used but should be considered a decorative piece. Of course, one could place items on it and can carry weight but it should be reinforced if you plan to use it daily. Please email any questions. Ref: Pennsylvania Deutsch / Dutch.
