c. late 1880s. Both unmounted, silver gelatin printing out paper images. One shows an Army officer in a mule-drawn buggy beneath cottonwood trees, one containing tree burial of a Plains Indian, 7.25 x 5.25"; the other 6 x 4" depicting an outing with a U.S. Army freight wagon, and a covered passenger coach. Both with fine, sepia tones.Christian "Casey" Barthelmess served in the Army as a bandsman and later, as a photographer. He came to Fort Keogh in 1888. His work is infrequently encountered, and almost always in album format. The Thomas Minckler Collection of Western Americana Condition: Both images with corners clipped for insertion into paper mounts for photo album.
