Four Chamberlain's Worcester Porcelain Articles from the Carnatic ServiceCirca 1820comprising two plates, an oval dish and an oval platter, each decorated with a central botanical image respectively identified to the underside: Superb Corn-Flag (plate), Winged Passion-Flower (plate), Chinese Lychnis (oval dish), Prickly Comfrey (oval platter); the border of each bearing a cartouche inscribed in Arabic 'Amir Al Hind Nawab Azam Jan Bahadur 1236 Hirji' (date 1820 AD) and with maker's stamp to the underside.Width of platter 12 5/8 inches.This lot is located in Chicago.Provenance:Eyre & Greig Ltd., London, 29 November 1995 (with copy of invoice)Note:The articles in the present lot come from one of two services made by Chamberlain's Worcester for His Highness Willajah Nabob Auzum Jar, the 11th Nawab of the Carnatic, Madras, who reigned from 1819-1825. The botanical images were copied from illustrations in Curtis's Botanical Magazine.Diameter of plates: 10 inches.Width of oval dish: 11 5/8 inches.In overall decent, stable condition. Scattered rubbing to gilt decoration on rim and border. The plates with some wear to painted floral decoration on center field. Each with crazing to glaze throughout, does not ring-true when tapped.
