FRAMED 9/0 "DOUBLE LEOPARD Variation" Atlantic salmon fly Created & tied by Paul Schmookler in 2012 Throughout the 1980s and 1990s his work as both a realistic tier and as a creative salmon fly tier was featured in books and numerous periodicals, including two feature-length articles in Sports Illustrated. In 1993, Schmookler's first book The Salmon Flies of Major John Popkin Traherne was produced, followed by Rare and Unusual Fly Tying Materials: A Natural History. Vol 1 - Birds (1994) and Vol 2 - Birds & Mammals (1997), and finally Forgotten Flies in 1999. Schmookler's Gold Ink award-winning soft cover publication, Art of Angling Journal , ran from 2001 to 2006. Created and tied by Paul Schmookler in 2012 is this " DOUBLE LEOPARD VARIATION ," a creative Exhibition pattern based Schmookler's original DOUBLE LEOPARD that he invented in 1983. The original fly has been featured in Sports Illustrated (December 17, 1990), in Judith Dunham’s The Atlantic Salmon Fly (1991) and in Rare and Unusual Fly Tying Materials: A Natural History (1994). By publishing the DOUBLE LEOPARD Schmookler introduced the use of peacock pheasant feathers to the fly tying community for the first time. A certificate of authenticity is mounted on the back of the frame.
