Some discoloration on book.FRANKLIN MINT ìThe GENIUS OF MICHELANGELOî STERLING SILVER Art Medal Set - COMPLETE In 1976, The Franklin Mint issued a set of sixty 925-Sterling-silver medallions they titled "The Genius of Michelangelo." The coins were bound in a leather-like volume with ten coins per page. Each 45mm coin features a design that commemorates a well-known work of art by the great Renaissance master on the obverses. The reverses have the title of the piece surrounding a geometric web-like design centered on a small bas-relief of Michelangelo's head. The total weight of all sixty coins is approximately 75.5 Troy ounces. Research indicates that The Franklin Mint acquired the first 29 or 30 coin designs and struck coins in the purchase of another minting operation, then struck the remainder of the set in their own facility. Those latter strikes were coated by Franklin Mint to prevent tarnishing, while the first portion were not. Hence, the first 29 items in this set have developed some beautiful toning features as well as some tarnish, but those in the latter portion are bright and shiny.
