THIS IS A FRENCH MODEL1874 GRAS BAYONET & SCABBARD WITH MATCHING NUMBERS (F or T96821) MADE BYMRE D’ ARMES de ST. ETIENNE in FEBRUARY 1875. This superb and original French Model 1874 Gras bayonet produced for the French Army by the renowned armory at St. Etienne was used between the middle of the 1870’s until the end of WW1. This particular bayonet is notable because it is a matching pair of serial numbers to both bayonet and scabbard. Type: Model 1874 manufactured by St Etienne dated FEB 1875 Overall Length: 26 inches Blade Length: 20-1/2” Blade Width (at guard): ¾” Scabbard: Blued Steel Overall length of scabbard: 21” This is a superb, excellent example of a French bayonet that is not usually found in this sort of condition. The only problem is that the last owner gave the handle and scabbards a coat of shellac or varnish. This could be easily removed, if desired. Check out my other items !
