This lens gives the most swirly bokeh of any Petzval I have seen. It is in extravagently scruffy condition outside, but the GOOD news is that the glass is fine and clear, and it has an iris and retaining ring. So if you fancy taking photographs in any medium, from Daguerreotypes and Wet Plates to modern film emulsions, this could be the lens for you. ( As it was made at the end of the 19th century it is colour corrected, unlike many early Petzvals ). The barrel is made from brass, copper and gun metal, though you have to look closely to see this because of the terrible tarnishing. Please look carefully at the photographs. So if you want to get into the fascinating world of early photography, this could be the lens for you. The focal length is 8 inches, and maximum aperture is F5. The iris stops down to a minimum of F32. The maximum swirl is seen on half plates, or 7"x5", but ir can be used on 5"x4". Please feel free to ask any questions you have before bidding.
