Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Water Cooler with Lid, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1860, cylindrical cooler with heavily-tooled shoulder, squared rim, applied lug handles, and large circular bung hole. Front decorated with an elaborate two-stemmed clover plant. Similar, smaller design on reverse. Cobalt highlights to bung hole and handle terminals. Cobalt band around shoulder. Lid with cobalt petal-shaped brushwork around edge and knob. Cooler is in excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor nicked area to rim, which is glazed-over. Lid with loss to knob and chips to flange on underside.
