Welcome to CivilWarBadges Ebay Auctions PAYPAL WELCOMED ~ PLEASE EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS CONCERNING EBAY'S NEW PAYMENT POLICY 78MM ~ A BEAUTIFUL MEDAL ~ OBVERSE HAS 4 DARK SPOTS THAT I THINK CAN BE SEEN QUITE CLEARLY IN THE PHOTOS ~ I DID TRY TO SOAK THE SPOTS WITH COIN CARE, WHICH HELPED A LITTLE, BUT I WILL LEAVE THE REMAINER UP TO THE HIGH BIDDER ~ IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE SPOTS THIS MEDAL WOULD BE INCREDIBLE ~ THE REVERSE IS A REAL BEAUTY ~ GREAT 3-D TYPE APPEARANCE ~ THANKS FOR LOOKING.. The original 3.2” diameter medal was commissioned a solitary example struck in gold and presented to General Meade. The Meade medal was designed by former US Mint engraver Anthony C. Paquet (1814-1882) and is considered by the numismatic world to be his finest work. During July – August 1866 at least another 100 examples in bronze-copper were ordered by the Union League Club “as replicas of the elegant gold medal” and struck at the mint from the same Paquet dies. The precise number of bronze specimens is unknown, but Julian’s Medals of the United States Mint puts the number, vaguely, at “over 100” before the dies were returned to the Union League Club w they are said to still reside. ~INSURANCE EXTRA~ PLEASE MAKE PAYMENT WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE AUCTIONS CLOSE. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND HAPPY BIDDING! INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS WELCOME. PLEASE EMAIL FOR read more
